Week 4 of the Florida Legislature's 2025 session is underway, and lawmakers are making progress with a packed schedule of committee meetings and discussions. Several bills have now moved to the floor of each chamber for votes, and committees are continuing to focus on advancing key priorities. As we approach the halfway point of the session, the pace is picking up, and time is starting to run out for bills that haven't yet moved forward.

Health Coverage by Nonprofit Agricultural Organizations

SB 480 by Sen. Nick DiCeglie (R - Indian Rocks Beach)
HB 497 by Rep. JJ Grow (R - Inverness)

This week, SB 480 made impressive strides, and we are thrilled to see it moving forward. The bill, presented by Sen. DiCeglie, passed through its last committee stop, the Senate Rules Committee, with near-unanimous support. Special thanks to Sen. DiCeglie for his exceptional leadership in advocating for a bill that will provide much-needed resources to our state's farmers and ranchers.

With SB 480 at the finish line in the Senate, we are advocating for the House bill to follow suit, as it only has one more stop left in the House Commerce Committee. We look forward to seeing continued momentum as this important legislation moves forward!

Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS) - Florida Farm Bill

SB 700 by Sen. Truenow (R - Tavares)
HB 651 by Rep. Tuck (R - Lake Placid)

This week, SB 700/HB 651 saw significant advancements in both chambers, with successful passage in the House Criminal Justice Committee and the Senate Agriculture, Environment, and General Government Committee. The bill continues to include key provisions vital to supporting our agricultural community, such as clear labeling to prevent consumer confusion and ensure products that mimic others are properly distinguished. A standout provision in the bill allows agricultural producers to build housing for their legal employees on agricultural property, addressing the urgent need for workforce housing. Additionally, the bill aims to secure the future of agriculture by enabling the Department to sponsor membership dues for 4H and FFA students, helping to cultivate the next generation of leaders in the industry. We extend our sincere thanks to the bill sponsors and Commissioner Simpson for their leadership in addressing these critical issues and ensuring the needs of Florida’s agricultural community are met.

Rural Communities
SB 110 by Sen. Simon (R - Tallahassee)

HB 1427 by Rep. Griffits (R - Panama City) and Rep. Abbot (R - DeFuniak Springs)

This week, HB 1427 passed its first committee in the House, where it was approved unanimously. While SB 110 has already passed the Senate, we are optimistic that the House bill will continue to advance quickly in the coming weeks. HB 1427, sponsored by Rep. Griffitts and Rep. Abbot, is a forward-thinking initiative aimed at supporting Florida’s rural communities. It seeks to improve access to essential services, foster economic growth, and expand opportunities for residents in these areas. By addressing key challenges and encouraging sustainable development, HB 1427 reaffirms a strong commitment to ensuring that rural Florida thrives.
